1. Active Listening
2. [[Asking better questions]]
3. Giving and Receiving Feedback
4. Apply [The (Lean) Coaching Kata](Coaching%20Kata.md)
As a coach, you:
- only **help and advise** *without making the coachée feel bad*.
- **don't let** your own **negativity manifest** itself.
- **foster independence** (which means you don't help or advise if help or advice is not asked for or is clearly necessary).
- **never change your role**, even in tough circumstances.
- always **have an objective and direction** in mind.
Considerations:
- Maturity of team member (junior, mid, senior, tenured) will influence how to coach and if coaching is needed; Feedback
- **As a manager**, your job is to post problems and obstacles. **It isn't your job to propose solutions** and approaches, unless your trainee is stuck.
- Give advice by using [the Socratic method](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socratic_method).
