The **Toyota Kata** is a means of applying the **Scientific Method** to any process, research, or work at the individual, team, or organizational level.
To do that, it combines the [Process Analysis Kata](Process%20Analysis%20Kata.md) and the [Improvement Kata](Improvement%20Kata.md) with the [Coaching Kata](Coaching%20Kata.md). It is a way of thinking and acting in a systematic and constructive way to deal with problems, uncertainty, and change. The Japanese word "Kata" means "a way of ...", such as "a way of improving" in the case of the Improvement Kata. The collection of these Kata is known as the **Toyota Kata**, because it describes how *Mike Rother* found that the Toyota car manufacturer works.

The most important Kata, the [Improvement Kata](Improvement%20Kata.md), is about applying the **scientific method** to resolving (1) a [Challenge](Understand%20the%20Challenge.md) by (2) grasping the [Current Condition](Process%20Analysis%20Kata.md) and (3) moving towards the Challenge via intermediate [Target Conditions](Target%20Conditions.md). Actual "work" happens through (4) iterative [Experiments](Planning%20the%20next%20Experiment.md) that help you push your **Knowledge Threshold** towards the Challenge by resolving [Obstacles](Obstacles.md).
To get going with the Toyota Kata, you begin with the [Starter Kata](Starter%20Kata.md).
